Tove Lo Releases "Timebomb" Video, Announces North American Tour

>> Rising star Tove Lo has just released the music video for her latest single “Timebomb.” The song serves as the third single from her debut album Queen of the Clouds, following successful predecessors “Habits (Stay High)” and “Talking Bodies.” As explained by Tove Lo herself in a posting on Facebook, “#‎TIMEBOMB‬ the song tells the bittersweet story of losing that explosive passion you start out with, and how it's painful and beautiful all at once. TIMEBOMB the video tells the story of loves that can't last because people around won't let them. And still they fight to stay together. That is also beautiful. And painful. In my heart I believe everyone should be able to love whoever they want. I wanted to shine some light on that in this video. Never take it for granted.” Watch the video below.

>> Tove Lo is taking her passionate music on the road with a North American tour.  Erik Hassle will provide support on the run that kicks off September 28th in San Diego and comes to a close in NYC on October 21st.  The full list of dates can be seen below, and more information can be found at www.tove-lo.com/tour .

New Music Video: "Pity Party" by Melanie Martinez

>> Today (6/8/15) is the 7th anniversary of The Music Obsession! *Cue Celebration* Even though I'm not having a pity party, this song has been on repeat for the majority of my day so far.

>> You'll probably recognize Melanie Martinez as the talented songstress with black and blonde hair split down the middle from The Voice season 3.  Since her time on the show, Melanie has signed with Atlantic Records through which she released her Dollhouse EP in 2014.  Her music shows the dark potential for pop, something perfectly personified in her videos as well.

>> For 2015, Martinez released her darker, twisted version of Lesley Gore's hit "It's My Party" which she titled "Pity Party." The track is still inherently a catchy pop song, but not in the way you would typically expect.  Even the video starts out with Martinez simply being upset that nobody showed up to her party, but as the video progresses, she eventually snaps - which actually makes things more fun as you can see below.

>> "Pity Party" is the first single from Melanie Martinez's upcoming album, titled Cry Baby. The album is set for release on August 14th through Atlantic.

New Music Video: "You're The Most" by What's Eating Gilbert

>> What's Eating Gilbert, Chad Gilbert from New Found Glory's second band, will release a full-length album on July 10th through Hopeless Records. The album, titled That New Sound You're Looking For, is sure to be full of doo-wop inspired tracks like the first single, "You're The Most." Full Disclosure: I'm A Publicist Now, Too!

>> Hey there, loyal readers! Today is a cool day for me personally.  I, Kate Russell, graduated from NYU's Gallatin School of Individualized Study on May 20th 2015, and I graduated with a job waiting for me. I'm proud to announce that as of today, June 1st, I'm now a publicity manager with The Catalyst Publicity Group. I've worked with the Catalyst ladies through setting up coverage for their artists on this site and I came to really appreciate the way they run things. They value music and musicians in the same way that I do, and I couldn't be happier with this opportunity.

>> I have written about Catalyst artists over the years and I don't intend to stop, but I do promise that I won't begin using The Music Obsession as a way to shamelessly plug my own clients. If and when I do write about a client, I plan to make a note of it in each post.  I've only given time and support to artists that I believe deserve it over the years, and that won't change. The coverage will stay the same in the sense that it won't be all Catalyst artists all the time - plus I'm bringing on some new writers who will be shedding light on what catches their interest.  My job title might have changed, but the value I place on this site and honest writing hasn't.

>> The Music Obsession turns 7 this month (next Monday 6/8, to be exact).  This has been my baby for 7 years now, and I don't plan on abandoning it any time soon. The plan is to balance publicist duties with my love for sharing great music with you readers, and that should be doable especially with new contributors.  To celebrate this milestone, TMO will host a give-away in the coming weeks. Keep your eyes peeled for the official announcement! Thanks for your continued support.
